The Ardeche Gorges Nature Reserve which starts at Vallon-Pont- d’Arc and finishes at St Martin d’Ardèche is remarkable by its cultural heritage, whether prehistoric or more recent. The famous Chauvet cave discovered in 1994 and painted 32000 years ago is a magnificent testimony of ancient human presence .
L’Aven d’Orgnac, the Madeleine caves, l’Aven Marzal, St Marcel caves and southern, the Pont du Gard, the castles of provencal Drôme provençale or the city of the Popes in Avignon should also be absolutely visited.
